Madonna has strongly hinted that she could headline Glastonbury Festival in 2027, during a promotional interview for her upcoming album Confessions II. Speaking to Graham Norton on the BBC, the iconic singer mentioned that after her album release, she would be doing promo tours “for a while,” but then added: “and then in the summertime something bigger.” Norton responded excitedly, asking if the show would be in the UK, to which Madonna coyly replied: “It could be. Why do you have to know everything?”
No Confirmed Plans Yet
The Mirror approached Madonna’s publicist regarding the comments and the prospect of her playing Glastonbury. They stated there were “no definite touring plans” and that anything else was “speculation.” Madonna has never performed at Glastonbury, despite being strongly linked to a headline slot in 2024. Talks reportedly broke down in February of that year after months of negotiations.
World Cup Half-Time Show Confirmed
In the same interview, Madonna confirmed she will perform at the half-time show of the World Cup Final, calling it a lifelong dream. “I'm just a really big football fan, and it's always been my dream… they never had a half time show. So I have been bugging and harassing my manager for over a year about it,” she said. She remained tight-lipped about the setlist, telling fans they would “find out when you get there.”
Confessions II Album Details
Confessions II is the follow-up to her hugely successful 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor. Superstar producer Stuart Price is back working alongside Madonna to create more anthems. The pair have already dropped tracks including I Feel Free and Freedom during a surprise set at Los Angeles club The Abbey. Price praised Madonna’s storytelling: “Madonna's always got a story, and that's always been the case, so she's a great storyteller. She's very poetic in the way that she writes. The studio just becomes a space to tell the stories.”
Creative Process and Track Selection
One track, One Step Away, was created in a “kind of flash of light” after they were dancing to the instrumental and Madonna asked Price to switch on a microphone, delivering the lyrics in a stream of consciousness. “It’s kind of like I get possessed, it’s weird. The ideas come when I don’t try too hard. It just happens,” she admitted. The album contains 16 tracks in a continuous mix, designed to keep energy high. Madonna revealed they left out eight songs: “We have eight songs that we really love that didn't make it on the record. You could only put so many songs on the record, 16 seems indulgent almost.” She described the hour-long LP as “a great record to work out to,” adding: “Does this make me want to get up and move? Just drive me, just inspire me? Does this give me an incentive, make me want to sweat? And if it didn't, I was like ‘off the record’.”
Confessions II is out July 3 on Warner Music. Madonna & Graham is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
