Ludwig Season 2 Sparks Complaints Over Blurry Backgrounds

The second season of BBC's Ludwig has drawn complaints from viewers within minutes of its premiere, with many taking issue with the show's shallow depth of field.

Viewers Distracted by Blurry Backgrounds

Throughout the episode, the main character or key subject in the frame is kept in sharp focus, while other characters and elements in the background are deliberately softened or blurred. While this technique is used to draw attention to the central figure, many viewers found it difficult to watch.

One viewer immediately asked: "Why is the background so blurry??" Another responded: "No idea. Its annoying." A third confessed: "Glad someone else saw that. thought my eyes were going."

Reactions to the Cinematic Technique

A fourth viewer weighed in: "The filming very weird. Blurry on edge of screen both sides." Another said: "It makes me wonder why I bought an expensive old tv when a fuzzy and blurry picture is being broadcasted."

Someone else described the technique as "odd" while another explained: "I think the director tries very hard to be David Fincher-like but he's on a budget. Fincher has that smeary thing on the edge of the screen at times but they're going over the top with it here."
