A woman has been taken to hospital after a fire in a block of flats on Saracen Street in Glasgow, which led to a police lockdown of the street.
Emergency response and evacuation
Emergency crews, including four Scottish Fire and Rescue Service appliances, responded to reports of a blaze within a dwelling on Saracen Street around 6.46pm on Thursday, August 20. Residents were evacuated, and several were checked over by medics at the scene. One woman was taken to hospital by ambulance to be assessed.
Street closure and reopening
Police closed Saracen Street between Keppochhill Road and Closeburn Street. Images from the scene showed the street taped off with police officers standing guard beside emergency vehicles. Firefighters left the scene around 8.08pm after ensuring the area was safe. The street has since reopened.
Official statements
A police update stated: "Saracen Street has reopened following a fire at a block of flats which was reported around 6.55pm on Thursday, 20 August, 2026. Emergency services attended and residents were evacuated, some of whom were checked over at the scene. One woman was taken to hospital to be assessed. Officers remain in the area and enquiries are continuing. Members of the public are thanked for their patience."
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received a call around 6.46pm regarding a house fire within a dwelling on Saracen Street. We mobilised four appliances and left the scene around 8.08pm after making sure the area was safe."
