Singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan has bravely shared her traumatic experience of being assaulted by a friend of professional boxer Conor Benn while filming Channel 4's gruelling reality show SAS: Who Dares Wins.
The former X Factor contestant revealed the shocking incident occurred during production of the celebrity edition of the military-style challenge series. Spraggan, now 32, was reportedly attacked after a night out with fellow contestants when Benn's friend entered her hotel room uninvited.
Production Halted Following Incident
Channel 4 immediately suspended filming when producers became aware of the assault. A spokesperson confirmed the production team followed all proper protocols, providing full support to Spraggan and cooperating with police investigations.
The assailant later pleaded guilty to sexual assault and received a prison sentence, though Spraggan has chosen not to publicly identify him beyond his connection to Benn.
Spraggan's Courageous Decision to Speak Out
In her upcoming memoir Process: Finding My Way Through, Spraggan details how the assault derailed her music career and led to significant mental health struggles. She credits the SAS production team for their handling of the situation but criticises broader industry failures in supporting victims.
"The whole experience changed me fundamentally," Spraggan writes. "I went from being an outgoing, confident person to someone who didn't want to leave my house."
Industry Reactions and Support
Fellow celebrities and mental health advocates have praised Spraggan's bravery in coming forward. The incident has sparked renewed discussions about duty of care in reality television production.
Channel 4 maintains they have robust safeguarding policies but acknowledge the need for continuous improvement across the industry. Spraggan's story emerges as television producers face increasing scrutiny over participant welfare.
