Love Island Fans Stunned by Iain Stirling's CBBC Past After Decade on Show
Love Island Fans Stunned by Iain Stirling's CBBC Past

Love Island fans have been left stunned after discovering narrator Iain Stirling's legendary television past, with many only now realising he was a beloved CBBC presenter long before the dating show.

The 38-year-old Scot has provided commentary for Love Island since its return in 2015, remaining the sole constant presence through a succession of presenters including the late Caroline Flack, Laura Whitmore, and current host Maya Jama. Audiences have grown fond of his cheeky narration across 13 series of the UK edition and eight seasons of the American version.

From CBBC to Love Island

Given his recognisable voice, it may surprise viewers that they have entirely forgotten his rise to prominence on CBBC. The comic became a regular face on the channel in 2009 and presented a series of beloved children's shows, notably hosting the well-liked panel programme The Dog Ate My Homework, according to OK!.

One supporter recently shared a TikTok clip expressing delight at having followed Iain since their youth, triggering an unforeseen debate in the comments. It appears even fans who grew up watching him on CBBC failed to connect the dots.

Fan Reactions

One enthusiast declared: "OMG HOW DID I NOT NOTICE?" Another admitted: "I didn't put 2 and 2 together," while a different person added: "IAIN IS THE LOVE ISLAND GUY? ? ? ! ! ?"

A further viewer wrote: "I said 'oh Iain Stirling from CBBC' last week when the girls was talking about Love Island and they said 'wait he was on CBBC' I thought everyone knew this." A fifth fan exclaimed: "Omg no way! I've just now realised I used to watch him," while a sixth chimed in: "I didn't know people didn't know that he's the guy from The Dog Ate My Homework, his voice is so unique."

Iain's Initial Hesitation

Iain has confessed that he initially turned down the Love Island offer until his then flatmate, Phil Wang, persuaded him to accept it. Speaking on the Comic Relief video podcast Comic Confessions, he revealed: "I turned it down loads of times, because at the time I believed it would get me less work – now it's sort of the only reason I get any work, so it's worked out quite well actually."

He went on to say: "I think there's been a big sea change in the way that reality TV and things is perceived you get comedians going on the Jungle and things like that whereas ten to 15 years ago there was a sort of snobbery about reality TV that maybe doesn't exist as much any more, because if you know how reality TV is made it's actually very difficult."

Love Island airs Sundays to Fridays at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
