Lorraine Kelly confirms mum Anne is home from hospital

Lorraine Kelly has confirmed that her mother, Anne, is finally able to leave hospital and return home, one month after suffering a fall.

Posting a photo of Anne, 85, on Instagram, the ITV presenter wrote: "Mum getting home! Great news and huge thanks to all at Hairmyres Hospital for making it happen. Thanks also to friends, family, and fabulous neighbours who have been incredible and so helpful - and to all of you for your good wishes - much appreciated."

Support from friends and fans

Within hours of posting, Lorraine, 66, received an outpouring of support. Her long-time friend and co-star Mark Heyes replied: "Brilliant news, send her my love." Cook and author Lucy Young added: "So glamorous, hope she heals in comfort."

Fans also sent their well-wishes to Lorraine and Anne. "This has made me so happy. A beautiful mum and a fighter. Sending love and a big hug to you both," wrote one. "She looks absolutely amazing," noted a second. "Lovely and a great hospital indeed," commented a third.

Background to Anne's hospital stay

Last month, the ITV presenter revealed that Anne, who also lives with a kidney condition known as nephrotic syndrome, had been left with a broken arm after suffering a fall. On 22 September, Lorraine wrote on Instagram: "Happy 85th birthday to my mum. Sadly celebrating in hospital today after a bad fall resulted in a broken arm."

In a further update shared on 3 October, Lorraine noted that Anne was on the mend at Hairmyres Hospital. "I just wanted to say a massive, big thank you to everybody at Hairmyres Hospital who's been looking after my mum," the TV star said in a video. "She had a really bad fall, and she broke her shoulder, and she's also had terrible problems with an infection in her eye. Well, she's getting a lot better, thanks to the treatment that she's getting at Hairmyres, and she's had an operation on her eye."

Ongoing care at home

Lorraine concluded in that update: "She's very brave, and she's very stoic, and we're very hopeful that she'll be home soon," before thanking everyone involved at the NHS for doing such an amazing job.

Lorraine, who lost her beloved father, John, in January, has been caring for her mum in recent years, and regularly shares updates about Anne on her talk show and on social media.
