In a dramatic boardroom confrontation, Lord Sugar has dismissed another candidate from the BBC's hit business reality show, The Apprentice. The latest episode, which aired on Thursday, February 19, saw entrepreneur Roxanne Hamedi become the fifth hopeful to be fired this season, sparking controversy as she insisted she was unfairly targeted.
Task Failure Leads to Firing
The candidates were tasked with creating and marketing a brand of bottled water, involving live social media sales and producing a television advertisement. Conor Galvin served as project manager for the losing team, with both the water carton branding and TV advert receiving harsh criticism from Lord Sugar and his advisors.
Conor, Rajan Gill, and Roxanne Hamedi were brought back into the boardroom as the final three facing potential dismissal. Conor was faulted for providing unclear instructions to his team, while Rajan was held accountable for significant errors during the sales pitch.
Roxanne Takes the Fall
As sub-team leader responsible for the branding elements, Roxanne ultimately bore the brunt of Lord Sugar's disapproval. The business magnate pointed his infamous firing finger directly at the pharmacist and beauty brand founder, ending her journey on the competition.
"It didn't feel good to be fired, just because I didn't think that I deserved to be," Roxanne revealed afterwards. "There was a lot going on that day and I feel like other people lacked accountability. So yeah, it wasn't a nice feeling."
Controversial Claims of Scapegoating
Roxanne expressed strong disagreement with the decision, suggesting she was made an "easy scapegoat" for the team's collective failure. She pointed specifically at project manager Conor Galvin, stating he should have been dismissed instead.
"Conor should have gone because he was the PM and I feel like he did throw me under the bus," she explained. "I was just an easy scapegoat. He said that he wants something bold and clean and I believe that's what I delivered. The instructions were very vague but I delivered what was asked for with clarity, simplicity and a creative touch."
Reflections on the Experience
When asked if she would have approached the task differently, Roxanne acknowledged battling a cold during filming which affected her performance. "I was not in the right frame of mind," she admitted, though she conceded she "could have fought more in the boardroom."
Despite her disappointment, the fired candidate found value in the experience. "The BBC show had taught me how to be resilient," she reflected. "I left with grace, dignity and my head held high, even if I didn't get to say everything I wanted to."
Looking toward the future, Roxanne remained optimistic about her business prospects. "I do believe the universe has a bigger plan for me," she declared. "This isn't the last that you're going to see of me."
Continuing the Competition
The Apprentice continues its current season on BBC One and BBC iPlayer every Thursday at 9pm, with The Apprentice: Unfinished Business airing immediately afterwards on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer. The remaining candidates will face increasingly challenging business tasks as they compete for Lord Sugar's £250,000 investment partnership.
This latest firing highlights the intense pressure and high stakes of the long-running reality series, where business decisions have real consequences for ambitious entrepreneurs seeking to impress one of Britain's most successful business figures.
