Kate Cassidy, Liam Payne's ex-girlfriend, is facing significant backlash from fans after sharing a Halloween costume photo on Instagram that shows her covered in blood, just weeks after what would have been the One Direction star's 33rd birthday.
The former One Direction member died in a tragic incident in Argentina in October 2024, just days after Cassidy had returned to the United States.
Fans React to Costume Post
In the image, Cassidy is wearing a black leotard and is covered in blood, with the caption: "and she died of a broken heart" accompanied by a broken heart emoji. Fans were quick to criticize the post, with one commenting: "What an insensitive caption." Another wrote: "What the hell is this!!! Seriously sick. What is it with celebs covering themselves in blood. Some sort of sacrifice thing or what!"
A third comment read: "Wow. This is distasteful beyond any level of marking just how distasteful it is. Talk about going from grieving someone you 'loved' and 'adored' to making a sick video with vile background music and trying to make it look sexual ~ no girl…. NO." A fourth said: "So disrespectful to Liam this is discusting."
Recent Birthday Tribute
Just weeks earlier, in August, Cassidy had paid tribute to Liam on his birthday, celebrating at Applebee's, one of his favorite restaurants, with his go-to order of a cheeseburger. She shared the moment on Instagram, noting: "One of Liam's favourite restaurants was Applebees. This was Liam's go-to burger, the cheeseburger." She also blew out a candle on a cake and wrote: "Reminder you don't have to stop celebrating someone's birthday just because they're no longer here. Happy 33 Liam."
Cassidy also posted polaroids of the pair, writing: "Your birthday will always be your day. loving you, remembering you, missing you always. happy birthday Liam."
Liam and Kate dated for two years until Liam's death at the age of 31 in October 2024. Fans have pointed out the timing of the costume post, with one commenting: "I know it's halloween soon, but same time your partners anniversary of their death wasn't long ago." Another noted: "This next to the pic of Liam on your grid is really insenstive."
