Liam Fray 'Wouldn't Say No' to Supporting Oasis on 2027 Tour
Liam Fray Wouldn't Say No to Oasis Support Slot

Courteeners lead singer Liam Fray has said it would be an 'instant yes' if they were asked to support Oasis on their rumoured run of shows next year. The Middleton-born frontman also praised the Prime Minister-in-waiting Andy Burnham, a well-known fan of the band, saying he had done a 'fantastic job' as the region's mayor.

Oasis Tour Rumours

Sources have told the Manchester Evening News that Oasis are set to follow up their blockbuster Live25 tour with 12 nights at the Etihad Stadium in May and June of next year. It is also understood the wider tour will include a return to Knebworth in Hertfordshire, the scene of their now legendary shows in 1996.

Fray's Response on Radio X

During an appearance on Radio X to promote their upcoming greatest hits album, Fray said the band would jump at the chance to be on the bill. Asked by show host Johnny Vaughan if they would have 'answered the call' to support them last year, when Cast and Richard Ashcroft warmed up at their shows, Fray simply said 'yes.'

“It’s just an instant yes, isn’t it?” asked fellow host Gavin Woods. “Well, it is for me. I don't know if someone else has said no. I wouldn't say no,” Fray replied. “There are rumours Oasis will be playing live again next summer. If Courteeners are asked, you definitely would do that, would you?” Vaughan asked him. “I would yeah. Yeah, probably” Fray replied.

Praise for Andy Burnham

Fray also spoke of his admiration for the impending new PM Mr Burnham. Asked if he liked him, Fray said: "Yeah, very much so", adding he had 'done a fantastic job in Manchester.' Asked what he had done that impressed him so much, he said: "Just comes to our gigs, really!" adding 'listen, he’s got good taste. What more can you say?'

Mr Burnham was last night nominated by 322 Labour MPs to replace Sir Keir Starmer and he is currently the only declared candidate. If no one else enters the contest, as expected, Mr Burnham will be declared Labour leader next week before taking office as prime minister on 20 July.
