EastEnders' Lacey Turner Says Wendy Richard's Ghost Slapped Her
Lacey Turner: Wendy Richard's Ghost Slapped Her on EastEnders Set

EastEnders actress Lacey Turner has shared a story about a 'supernatural' event she experienced on the soap's set, claiming the ghost of a former co-star made her presence known in a unique way.

Turner, who has played Stacey Slater on-and-off since 2004, said she was standing by the back door contemplating a cigarette break when she felt a "great big whack" on her bottom. She turned, expecting to see a runner, but there was no one there.

A Ghostly Cigarette Break

Speaking to Heat magazine via Yahoo news, Turner explained that she used to have cigarette breaks with Wendy Richard and Laila Morse. After Richard's death, Turner was in the studio where the Fowlers would film when the incident occurred.

"It was only Barbara [Windsor] in that day, but she was down the other end," Turner said. "I'm convinced it was Wendy telling me to go for a cigarette like she used to."

Turner added that Morse still reckons it "got to have been Wendy" to this day, while confirming she'll "never forget it." Richard played Pauline Fowler from the soap's very first episode until the character's death in 2006.

Strictly Come Dancing Journey

While Stacey has been missing from EastEnders, Turner has been busy as a cast member in the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing alongside professional partner Vito Coppola.

Her former on-screen beau, James Bye, who played Martin Fowler, recently took to Instagram to pay tribute to her. Bye, who appeared in Series 20 of Strictly and was eliminated fifth, shared an image of the two of them together and wrote: "Properly proud of you as you start your Strictly journey."

He added: "I know you're going to be brilliant — mainly because you'll have everyone laughing, keeping everyone's spirits up and, obviously, making sure every surface in Elstree has been wiped within an inch of its life."

Bye concluded: "Go smash it, Lace. We'll be cheering you on every Saturday. So proud of you, you little legend."

Facing the Nerves

Turner previously explained to Where to Watch how she plans to battle nerves on the dancefloor: "I'm excited to learn something new and to be a part of this whole glittery shenanigan. But I am absolutely terrified and hoping that will go once I'm in the training room and I can get into it."

She said she'll "create a character that I can play on a Saturday night, as that's the only way I'll get out there." Turner noted she's always wanted to do the show but has never been brave enough, and decided to take part this year because she's not working on EastEnders and isn't sure she is "physically or mentally fit enough to do both jobs at the same time as well as run a household with three feral children."
