In a rare public reflection, actor Ashton Kutcher has spoken warmly about his ex-wife, Demi Moore, more than ten years after their high-profile marriage ended. The former couple's relationship, marked by a significant age gap and intense media scrutiny, concluded with a divorce finalised in 2013.
From Whirlwind Romance to Scathing Memoir
Kutcher and Moore began dating in 2003 and married two years later, with their 15-year age difference fuelling constant public discussion. They announced their separation in 2011. The split took a more contentious turn in 2019 when Moore released her memoir, Inside Out.
In the book, the then-63-year-old actress delivered a blistering account of their marriage. She accused Kutcher of repeated infidelity and claimed a pair of threesomes occurred. Moore also wrote that she suffered a miscarriage while six months pregnant with Kutcher's child and, after he reportedly questioned the reality of alcoholism, she broke her 20-year sobriety to cope with the loss.
Kutcher's Conciliatory Praise for 'The Substance'
Now, Kutcher has shifted the narrative, publicly commending Moore's acclaimed performance in the 2024 body horror film The Substance. The movie, which earned Moore an Oscar nomination, features her as an ageing actress who creates a younger version of herself.
"I mean, one, Demi's performance in The Substance, obviously she got extraordinary accolades. I'm so proud of her. She killed it," Kutcher told Entertainment Tonight. The topic arose due to comparisons between the film and Kutcher's upcoming Ryan Murphy series, The Beauty.
This praise follows a history of measured responses from Kutcher. When Moore's memoir was published, he initially drafted a "snarky tweet" but deleted it for the sake of his family. A year later, he stated there was "no badness" between them and that he remained in contact with Moore's three daughters from her previous marriage to Bruce Willis.
Life After the Split: New Marriages and Family Bonds
Following his separation from Moore—and before their divorce was finalised—Kutcher began dating his That '70s Show co-star, Mila Kunis. The pair, who have a 42-year-old Kunis, married in 2015 and share two children: daughter Wyatt, 11, and son Dimitri, nine.
Notably, Moore and Kunis displayed a surprisingly amicable dynamic, starring together in a cheeky AT&T advert in 2021 where Kunis joked they had "a lot in common." Moore has also maintained a famously strong bond with her ex-husband Bruce Willis, rallying with their daughters around him following his dementia diagnosis.
Kutcher's recent comments signify a potential softening of one of Hollywood's most dissected divorces, focusing on professional admiration rather than past marital strife.
