Kenneth Noye Victim's Parents 'Collapsed' Over Son's Death

Gary Cameron, uncle of murder victim Stephen Cameron, broke down in tears as he described seeing his nephew dead in hospital. Speaking in the new Prime Video documentary Murder on the M25: Who Killed Stephen Cameron?, Gary said: 'It was all sort of in slow motion, as I remember it. He was just laying there, as a poor little lifeless soul.'

Family Devastation After M25 Road Rage Killing

Gary recounted the moment Stephen's parents, Ken and Toni Cameron, saw their son's body: 'They just collapsed.' Stephen, 21, was stabbed to death on the M25 on 19 May 1996 in what became Britain's first road rage killing. His fiancée, Danielle Cable, 17, was driving and witnessed the attack.

The two-part documentary features fresh interviews, including some people speaking about the case for the first time. Gary described Stephen as someone who 'would do anything for you' and noted the couple were 'just beginning their lives together.'

Manhunt and Trial of Kenneth Noye

After the killing, Kenneth Noye fled to Spain, evading justice for two years. He was extradited in 1999 and tried in 2000, claiming self-defence. He received a minimum term of 16 years, but was released in 2019 after the Parole Board deemed him no longer a threat. Noye was also linked to the 1983 Brink's-Mat gold bullion robbery, where £26 million was stolen, and to the killing of undercover police officer John Fordham.

Impact on Stephen's Family

Stephen's father Ken, who battled depression after his wife Toni's death in 2016 aged 73, took his own life in 2022 aged 75, haunted by Noye's release and the death of his dog. The documentary also explores the role of 1990s tabloid media in sensationalising the case. Former Daily Mirror crime reporter Jeff Edwards said: 'People liked to read about true crime even in those days. Maybe it’s about the constant enduring battle between right and wrong.'

Murder on the M25: Who Killed Stephen Cameron? is streaming on Prime Video now.
