Katy Perry is reportedly preparing to disclose secrets about her marriage to Russell Brand in an upcoming book and documentary series. The news comes after Brand, a convicted rapist, was found guilty of raping a fan and sexually assaulting three women, with sentencing expected on Monday.
Perry in Active Discussions for Tell-All
Sources close to the singer told the Mail on Sunday that she had been awaiting the conclusion of Brand's trial before finalising any agreements, reports the Mirror. However, the pop artist has allegedly been engaged in 'active discussions' about sharing her perspective on their marriage, which ended in 2011.
An insider revealed: "Katy has received multiple offers over the years to tell her story but would not consider anything until after the trial. She has a lot to say. At the moment she's considering a Netflix-type series and an autobiography. She and her team have been in active discussions."
"There is a lot about that marriage which people don't know. It was a very dark period in her life," the insider added. It's understood her representatives have been in contact with major streaming platforms, including Netflix and Hulu.
Perry's Public Remarks on Brand
The performer had previously said publicly that she felt her former husband 'should be in jail.' During the opening night of her Out of Office UK tour in July, she addressed her turbulent romantic history while performing to the crowd. Perry, 41, told the audience at the 10,000-capacity venue: "I hope my ex isn't here, he should be in jail."
As Brand awaits sentencing on Monday (November 9), fellow inmates at Wandsworth Prison are reportedly prohibited from communicating with the convicted star following his transfer to the facility.
BBC Responds to Conviction
The BBC has also responded to the conviction, declaring "there can be no place for the abuse of power" while reiterating its public apology. A spokesperson said: "Firstly, the thoughts of everyone at the BBC are with the brave women who came forward and told their stories which led to a conviction in this case. There can be no place for the abuse of power."
"Across the industry, we must work together to ensure that anyone who suffers at someone else's hand feels able to report it, that their concerns are taken seriously and that they are listened to. We published a detailed report in January 2025 into how complaints about Russell Brand's conduct were handled. This looked at eight allegations of misconduct while he worked here between 2006 and 2008. It was of great concern to us that some people felt unable to raise concerns about Brand's behaviour. We apologised to those impacted, for both the culture and failings at the time, and we reiterate that apology again today."
Details of the Conviction
Brand will be sentenced on Monday after being found guilty of one count of rape and three charges of sexual assault. Brand had faced seven charges in total: three of rape, three of sexual assault and one of attempted indecent assault. He was found guilty of the rape of a 21-year-old woman he encountered after a comedy performance at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2009. He was also convicted of sexually assaulting an MTV employee at a Soho bar, a woman at the Choice FM studios, and a Channel 4 worker who had been instructed to give him a massage.
Brand was acquitted of raping a woman at a hotel in Bournemouth in 1999, during the Labour Party conference at which Brand had been performing at a cabaret show, and was cleared of an attempted indecent assault charge after being accused of grabbing a woman's arm and dragging her towards a toilet in central London in 2001. He was also acquitted of orally raping a woman in a bar toilet in London, an attack alleged to have occurred while the pair were attending a birthday celebration together in Soho.
