Director Paddy Wivell and producer Laura Wadha, the team behind Katie Price's new Sky documentary series Katie Price: Nothing to Hide, have opened up about their first meeting with the former model. During an appearance on Katie's podcast, co-hosted with her sister Sophie Price, they described her as welcoming and down-to-earth.
First Impressions at Katie's Home
When Katie asked if she was welcoming during their initial visit, Laura responded: "You made us feel very at home and welcome. Kettle on, chatting. I think you said, 'Yeah go on, make yourself a tea'. I think we all took turns to making tea." Katie replied: "Whoever comes to my house, make it your home." Paddy added: "You made it so easy because it is so relaxed. There's no prima donna stuff. It's just very relaxed. It doesn't always start on time, I would say that."
Building an Authentic Relationship
Paddy admitted feeling nervous initially, explaining: "Whenever you meet someone that's going to be in the film, you're just a bit nervous, aren't you? It's like, it's tentative beginnings. You're like you want to make sure you get on, you want to make sure you don't offend someone." He emphasized the importance of building a real relationship: "You're starting to build an actual real relationship. So what you hope that people get from the series is the sense of quite an intimate and authentic relationship between us as the filmmakers and you, Kate, as the subject."
Children's Candid Participation
The documentary also features Katie's children, Junior and Princess. In an earlier interview on This Morning, Katie revealed they agreed to participate only if they could be brutally honest about her breakdown and drug use. She shared: "They said: 'Mum if we're going to do this, we're going to be brutally honest ... and I said: 'I want you to speak from your heart.' And Junior said: 'I proper broke down' and Princess said: 'So did I' and I was like 'Why?' ... I never knew because obviously I wanted to kill myself and I did try ..."
Katie added: "That period of my life, I don't think people realise when I said when I said I had a breakdown, I wanted to die, didn't want to be here. And so as much as I thought I was being a mum, I wasn't. I was vacant. For young kids like that wanting their mum. I was trying to be the perfect mum and obviously I wasn't. It kills me I put them through that." She concluded: "Obviously we've come through the other end and they're like: 'We've got our mum back' but what confused them is that I was such an amazing mum, had the breakdown, didn't have the mum that they needed and wanted."
