Katherine Ryan has shared an intimate insight into her marriage to Bobby Kootstra, revealing that the couple's sex life has increased but remains 'not loads'. The Canadian-Irish comedian admitted she is a 'lazy shag' and 'really vanilla' in a new interview.
Comedian opens up about bedroom habits
Asked by The Times how often she and Bobby are sleeping together these days, Katherine revealed: 'It's still not loads. It's probably once a week, sometimes twice a week, but still not loads.'
This, she admitted, works for both of them. 'I just don't try. I'm a lazy shag. I'm really vanilla and Bobby is quite vanilla. We're well matched in that way,' the Last One Laughing star added. 'But the things I've seen and heard on my travels, my God. I just want to have nice, brief, marital sex. That's it.'
Previous revelations about intimacy
In 2024, Katherine admitted that she and Bobby only had sex 'exactly twice a month,' logging the deed 'just in case I get pregnant.' She previously shared with The Telegraph that the number had gone up from twice a month, adding: 'I do think it's important. But in reality, working parents who have small children are so knackered by nighttime, intimacy is just off the table. We have to find stolen moments in the day like before heading to work or during a nap, which isn't always very alluring.'
The pair, both 43, married via civil partnership in 2019, after first dating as teenagers and reconnecting later in life. They share three children together, Fred, Fenna and Holland, plus one daughter from a previous relationship of Katherine's.
Reconnection and podcast revelations
In 2021, Katherine reflected on her teenage relationship with Bobby, which ended abruptly on Prom Night when he ended things 'basically for no good reason except he was drunk.' It was during a 2018 visit to Canada that they reconnected – sleeping together after meeting up in a bar.
She told MailOnline in 2021: 'In the morning, I flipped out because I don't have one-night stands. Ever. But he was so gentlemanly. He texted me right away. He didn't play any games and we kept messaging back and forth. As soon as I got back to London, I invited him to visit. He took a week off work and came. Then and there I said: "I think we might end up together." He said: "Yeah, I think we might."'
Katherine and Bobby have been open about their marriage ever since, with Bobby getting in on the act for their aptly-named Telling Everybody Everything podcast. Leaving nothing to the imagination, one 2025 discussion saw Bobby reveal how he'd been left with a 'micro penis' after a jet ski accident in Canada.
'Right away, I got pulled up and like, one leg drags because of the skis and the bad driving, and then I just felt a pop,' he told Katherine. 'There was like shrinkage, like in a cold pool, for a week and I was like, "alright what is going on here? Why is it [my penis] so small?"' A quick Google told Bobby that the trauma had made his penis 'just kind of shrunk into itself.'
Joking that it had been 'a good run,' he added: 'With this micro penis thing I'm just more thankful for the things I have in life… I was like, "okay yes, I have this micro penis, I also have a lovely family, a nice garden.'
