Madonna has released a 10-minute short film titled Confessions II – The Film, featuring appearances by Kate Moss, Sabrina Carpenter, Richard E. Grant, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film premiered at the Tribeca Festival in New York last Friday and is now available on YouTube.
The short film accompanies Madonna's upcoming album Confessions II, a sequel to her 2005 Grammy-winning record Confessions on a Dancefloor. It is set to six songs from the album: I Feel So Free, Good for the Soul, One Step Away, Bring Your Love, Danceteria, and Read My Lips.
The narrative follows Madonna, 67, backstage at a venue pursued by female robots, then through a forest and laser-lit dance sequences. She dances on a boardroom desk, crashes her car en route to a nightclub, and eventually arrives to dance with the famous faces on the dance floor and in a bathroom. In one scene, Madonna sings, 'He's a DJ? Hide the cocaine' as Kate Moss lifts her head into the frame.
Other notable appearances include Julia Garner, Gwendoline Christie, Honey Dijon, Odessa A'zion, Shygirl, Arca, and Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon. Benedict Cumberbatch urges attendees to 'get up and dance' while showing off moves by the urinals. The film also features steamy scenes, including female dancers with green lasers shooting from their crotches.
Madonna described the project as a 'single, continuous piece, weaving together interconnected, music-driven sequences into an immersive cinematic experience.' She said she opted for a short film rather than a traditional music video, as producing just a video felt 'cheap.'
