Kate Garraway Faces Online Abuse After GMB Return Following Husband's Death

Kate Garraway has revealed she was targeted by online trolls after returning to Good Morning Britain following the death of her husband, Derek Draper. The 56-year-old presenter faced criticism for laughing during Thursday's broadcast, with some implying she did not care about her loss.

During a segment with actor Larry Lamb and bereavement counsellor Claire Collins, Garraway addressed the backlash. She said: 'I got a bit of flack on social media yesterday for laughing with you [Ben], as if that implied I didn't care... I have to laugh!'

The discussion focused on collective grief during the Covid-19 pandemic. Garraway admitted feeling 'very numb' since Draper's death and said she is only at the early stages of processing her grief. She added: 'We are not equipped for loss. No one is equipped for it.'

Garraway returned to work on Thursday after taking leave following Draper's death on January 3 at age 56. He had been seriously ill since contracting Covid-19 in March 2020 and spent 13 months in hospital before being discharged. His funeral was attended by Sir Tony Blair, Sir Elton John, and Sir Keir Starmer.
