Kate Ferdinand hits back at 'baggage' claims over Rio family

Kate Ferdinand has responded to critics who suggested her husband Rio brought 'baggage' into their relationship, sharing an Instagram video that celebrates how far their blended family has come. The post drew a flood of supportive messages from followers.

The couple married in 2019 and now have two children, Cree and Shea. Rio also has children, Lorenz, Tate and Tia, from his previous marriage to Rebecca Ellison, who died in 2015 from breast cancer.

Video Celebrates Blended Family Journey

In the video, Kate shared clips of herself with her husband and their children. A caption across the video read: "He's a widower and has 3 kids, that's a lot of baggage," before another said: "Why would you put yourself through that?"

She then switched to showing videos of herself and her stepchildren, as well as her young kids, and said, "The 'baggage'." Kate captioned the post for her 1.4 million followers: "The best thing I never knew I needed."

Supportive Messages From Followers

The comments soon came flooding in. @mmogha said: "As much as you give credit to Kate, I give it to Rio for loving her correctly. Her love to his children is the reflection of his love," to which Kate replied: "this!!!" alongside a string of heart emojis. @akoptom also shared: "They are the best thing that has happened to you but you're also the best thing that has happened to them," as Kate responded: "Absolutely [heart emoji]."

Previous Candid Comments on Motherhood

The post comes after Kate recently addressed her time away from social media. She told her followers: "I have five kids across two countries, I’m navigating motherhood and trying to be everything for everyone. Lately, I’ve been struggling with mum/ step mum guilt and missing everyone living in the same home."

She captioned the candid post of images from her camera roll: "I’ve got into a habit of overthinking Instagram and the reality is there’s so much more going on behind the pictures. Making a promise to myself to share a little less perfection and more me."
