Julia Bradbury flooded with support after cancer update

Julia Bradbury has been inundated with support after sharing a candid update about her cancer journey. The broadcaster, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, reflected on her lifestyle before the diagnosis and the changes she has made since.

Sharing Her Story

In a video sharing clips of her lifestyle before the diagnosis, Julia said: "I was healthy, and I still got cancer. Here's what I never thought twice about. I walked miles, ate my greens and thought I had my health covered. What I didn't question were the sweet treats, the wine and the late nights."

In the caption, she continued: "I'm not blaming myself, but I wish I'd known more. Now, at 56, I've given up alcohol and refined sugar, I protect my sleep, and I feel better than ever."

Health Warnings and Fan Reactions

Julia highlighted: "Alcohol is classed as a carcinogen and is linked to several cancers, including breast cancer." She also told followers that "diets high in sugary, ultra-processed food are linked to weight gain and inflammation, both associated with higher cancer risk. Long-term disrupted sleep is linked to a higher risk of chronic disease, including some cancers."

Many of the broadcaster's 367k followers took to the comments with praise. One shared: "Thank you for your great posts on better healthy outcomes." Another said: "So right Julia! I've not drank alcohol for 15 years and barely touch refined sugar. They just feel so wrong, don't they."

A third added: "Thanks so much for sharing all these tips, I've made a lot of the same changes since being diagnosed and feel loads better for really cutting the sugar this year." Another fan exclaimed: "Love this, Julia! I gave up alcohol almost 9 years ago and cut out ultra-processed foods and processed sugar over 5 years ago. I really prioritise my sleep too, although it can still be challenging at times!"

Diagnosis and Treatment

Julia previously revealed that she had found a lump while travelling and that, despite a year and a half of medical checks, including mammograms and scans, it initially came back clear. It was thanks to a persistent consultant who found the tumour during a follow-up ultrasound.

The mum of three underwent treatment such as a single mastectomy to remove her left breast and the 6cm tumour, followed by immediate breast reconstruction surgery. Julia also underwent chemotherapy to ensure the disease was fully contained. Five years on, she is currently in remission after being declared cancer-free and has since undertaken a lifestyle overhaul.
