Angelina Jolie was photographed in Paris on Tuesday following rare public remarks about her double mastectomy scars. The Oscar-winning actress, aged 50, appeared stylish in an all-black ensemble as she arrived at her hotel in the evening.
Chic Paris Appearance
The celebrated actress wore a long black coat paired with matching trousers, completing her sophisticated look with pointed-toe black heels. Her light brunette hair flowed gracefully over her shoulders as she moved through the French capital.
Revealing Interview About Scars
Earlier that same Tuesday, Jolie discussed her mastectomy scars during an interview with France Inter radio station. She had first publicly revealed these scars in December 2025 when posing for Time France magazine.
"I've always been someone more interested in the scars and the life that people carry," Jolie stated during the interview. "I'm not drawn to a perfect idea of a life that has no scars."
The actress emphasized that her scars represent a deliberate choice she made for her health and family. "My scars are a choice I made to stay here as long as I could with my children," she explained. "I love my scars because of that. And I'm grateful that I had the opportunity and the choice to do something proactive about my health."
Family Cancer History
Jolie's decision to undergo preventive surgery carries profound personal significance due to her family's tragic history with cancer. Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1999 and later developed breast cancer before passing away in January 2007 at age 56.
"Being able to choose to undergo the surgery was meaningful, especially because I lost my mother to cancer and am now raising my children without a grandmother," Jolie reflected.
The actress's grandmother and aunt also died from cancer, with her aunt Debbie Martin passing away from breast cancer at age 61 just weeks after Jolie revealed her mastectomy in 2013.
Medical Background and Advocacy
In May 2013, Jolie underwent a preventive double mastectomy after discovering she carries a BRCA1 gene mutation. This genetic variation gave her an estimated 87% risk of developing breast cancer and 50% risk of ovarian cancer.
Two years later, in March 2015, she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as additional preventive measures against ovarian cancer.
During her Time France interview, Jolie advocated for broader access to genetic testing. "Every woman should always be able to determine her own healthcare journey and have the information she needs to make informed choices," she asserted. "Genetic testing and screening should be accessible and affordable for women with clear risk factors or a significant family history."
Personal Reflections and Family Life
Jolie shares six children with ex-husband Brad Pitt: biological children Shiloh (19), Knox (17), and Vivienne (17), plus adopted children Maddox (24), Pax (22), and Zahara (21).
"So for me, I think this is life, and if you get to the end of your life and you haven't made mistakes and you haven't made a mess, you don't have scars, you haven't lived a full enough life," Jolie philosophized during her interview.
The actress currently stars in the film "Couture," directed by Alice Winocour, where she portrays Maxine Walker, a woman diagnosed with breast cancer. This role clearly resonates with her personal experiences and advocacy work.
Continued Health Journey
Following her ovary removal, Jolie entered menopause and began hormone replacement therapy. She has written extensively about these experiences, including a 2015 New York Times opinion piece titled "Angelina Jolie Pitt: Diary Of A Surgery."
"I know my children will never have to say, 'Mom died of ovarian cancer,'" Jolie previously told the New York Times in 2015, highlighting the preventive nature of her medical decisions.
Throughout her health journey, Jolie has emphasized that healthcare decisions must remain personal while advocating for greater accessibility. "Access to screening and care should not depend on financial resources or where someone lives," she insisted during her recent Paris interview.
