Jo Whiley's husband, music executive Steve Morton, is devastated after accidentally killing their 14-year-old Bengal cat, Simba. The incident occurred when Morton slowly drove over the cat on their driveway, unaware she had moved back near the vehicle after he had initially moved her.
The 60-year-old radio presenter shared the tragic news on her 'Dig It' podcast with Zoe Ball, becoming emotional as she described the accident. She said Morton called her in a panic after returning home and running over the cat, which was a much-loved family pet.
Whiley explained that Simba was particularly close to her husband, often sitting on his lap, and joked that the cat was his 'girlfriend'. She said Morton is 'in a world of pain' following the loss. The couple have four children, who were not at home when the incident occurred.
The family had to wait until the children returned to break the news, which Whiley described as 'the worst thing in the world'. A vet was called to put the cat out of her misery. The family now has three remaining pets: another cat called Gingin, a Sproodle dog named Brodie, and a golden retriever called Boosh.
