Jimmy Kimmel is set to return to ABC tonight, reportedly for the benefit of his staff, after being suspended for controversial comments about the reaction to Charlie Kirk's assassination. The veteran broadcaster is said to be furious with the network, but ABC and Disney confirmed the show will resume after 'thoughtful conversations'.
It is understood that Kimmel, 57, still intends to leave ABC when his contract expires next May. He has only agreed to return to support his staff, who were reportedly paid during the suspension but faced uncertainty. An insider said: 'He is coming back for everyone that works for him and out of respect for them, he wanted everyone in his crew not to miss any pay.'
Despite the return, Kimmel remains angry and is expected to address the situation on tonight's live broadcast. The insider added: 'I expect him to come out swinging... We are depending on him to stand up for what's right. If he doesn't, there will be a mutiny.'
Staff are unsure whether Kimmel will apologise or criticise Disney and ABC. The host has been in the industry since 1989 and is known for his outspoken style. His future with the network remains uncertain beyond his current contract.
