Jeremy Vine sparks outrage with Meghan and Harry conspiracy theory
Jeremy Vine outrage over Meghan and Harry theory

Jeremy Vine has been slammed by viewers after suggesting that the Prince and Princess of Wales triggered the "brutal publicity" faced by the Sussexes after attempting to "take them down a peg or two".

Appearing on his Channel 5 show, the presenter explained his theory, noting, "They [Prince Harry and Meghan Markle] had this sensational wedding; it went really well, and we all fell in love with them."

Vine's theory on royal feud

Alleging that Prince William and Princess Kate may have been "worried" by the response, Jeremy mused, "Either they, or more likely people on their behalf, thought, 'Let's take them down a peg or two', and they accidentally broke the whole ladder."

"You end up with just brutal publicity, and then they leave the country," he declared. "These two have done nothing, and they were briefed against like crazy! It was horrific!"

Backlash on social media

Following Jeremy's comments, the TV star was later called out on X, with one user writing: "Jeremy Vine has a very strange conspiracy theory about the Harry and Meghan vs William and Kate feud.

"Strange thinking from Jeremy, unless he knows something the rest of us don't. The public turned on Harry and Meghan because of their own behaviour. The idea that they did nothing wrong is laughable. They do nothing but leak and brief the press while insisting they just want privacy. Absolute jokers."

Taking to the comments, several viewers were in agreement. Voicing their outrage on the platform, one declared, "I've heard it all now. What an absolute load of rubbish Vine is spouting. No way are W&C jealous of those two."

Mixed reactions from viewers

Meanwhile, a second fumed, "Nonsense!!" and a third pondered, "So all the staff and people they've worked with and have spoken out against them are lying? @JeremyVineOn5."

While Jeremy's remarks have sparked backlash, others suggested that he might have been onto something. "Jeremy is so right in what he's saying! We've known that from the beginning!" declared a fan.
