Hilary Swank has revealed that she is expecting her third child with her husband, Philip Schneider. The 52-year-old actress confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing a video of her family dancing with glow sticks taped to their bodies.
“A lot of people have been asking what project I'm doing next; this one releases in December,” she teased on the platform.
Fans congratulate the actress
Following the announcement, Swank, who is already a mother to twins Aya and Ohm, was inundated with messages from fans. “Congratulations @hilaryswank! So excited for you and your family!” replied one fan. “Congratulations!!!! You are an inspiration to all women who want to have children later in life!” added a second. “Congratulations! What a wonderful announcement!” raved a third.
Motherhood later in life
Swank, who welcomed her twins at the age of 48 in 2023, has spoken openly about her decision to start a family later in life. “I knew I wanted kids someday, but I wasn't planning what that would look like,” she previously told People.
“I know it's so different for everyone, but for me, if I had had a kid in my 20s or my 30s, I think I'd be a much different parent than I am now. I feel like I have more [of that] kind of ability to really give them my attention in a way that I wouldn't have as much at that point because it would've been pulled between the two in a very distinct way.”
“In my career, being so established, I have the ability to kind of step in and step out when I choose, and that is just such a blessing,” she continued. “I've done a lot of work on myself. One of the things that I feel is important about being your best parenting self is having done that work, so you break any cycles that you don't want to impart on your children, and I've done a lot of that work over time, so I didn't have to do a lot of catch up with that.”
Life with twins
Swank has also spoken about her motherhood journey since welcoming her twins. “It's double the love, double the joy, double the exhaustion,” the Oscar winner said in an interview with Today. “I thought that it would be like this dream, but it's dreamier than I ever imagined. It blows open my whole world in the most beautiful way.”
For Swank, who declared that she'd frozen her eggs at 37, having children in her 40s and 50s was never a conscious choice, though it was the right one for her. “I'm a very different parent than I would've been, even in my early 40s,” she explained to Women's Health. “I'm much more patient. I'm much more understanding. I am much more, I think, interested in a different way than I would've been. I'm really interested in their brains. I'm fascinated by what makes them tick. And I have my career that's already established, so I'm not divided. I'm able to really sink in and be present with them and be a hands-on parent.”
