Lili Myers, widow of Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers, has spoken about grief and carrying on his legacy during a charity event on Tyneside. She said Dave's spirit and love for life remain, nearly two and a half years after his death in early 2024.
Speaking at a Tyneside Charity Event
This week, Lili addressed representatives from the region's business community and public sector at an event run by charity Rise North East's workplace wellbeing arm. As ever, her discussion featured Dave heavily.
Lili, an author, public speaker and hypnotherapist, works to support others going through grief. She is also an ambassador for the charity Cruze Bereavement Support.
The Impact of Dave's Friendship
Dave Myers, known to millions as one half of the Hairy Bikers TV duo alongside Geordie Si King, was a BBC fixture for two decades. Lili said their friendship was a huge part of why they connected with audiences.
She said: "It's all as a result of their friendship. They were just two friends, doing extraordinary things in extraordinary places."
Carrying Forward Dave's Legacy
Lili explained how Dave's death was met with an outpouring of love, with people telling her how he had impacted their lives. She said: "They had Dave in their living rooms for 20 years."
She added: "Dave had a fantastic life and inspired so many. I want to carry that on. I want people to know that yes, Dave isn't here in person but his spirit is still here, his love for life is still here!"
Making Grief a Normal Conversation
Lili said people often don't feel comfortable being vulnerable about grief. She said: "In the past couple of years, since losing Dave, I have started this conversation about making people more comfortable talking about loss."
She added: "We were taught to put up with it, put on a brave face, not to show anybody our grief or talk to anybody. What we have to do is to make this normal."
Speaking about Dave, she said he remains her "favourite subject" and added: "When there's a story, the words come easily and that story comes from my own experience - that's how I find the words to speak about it."
