Ed Sheeran and Martin Garrix gave a newlywed couple an unforgettable night by crashing their wedding reception in Chicago. The surprise came about after the bride's brother sent a direct message to Garrix's team, leading to an impromptu performance.
How the Surprise Unfolded
Sheeran, 35, and Garrix had just finished their own shows when they decided to make the detour. In an Instagram video, Sheeran explained: "Right, Martin did a show, I did a show, we finished. He's got a DM from someone saying 'can you crash sister's wedding?'" Garrix added excitedly: "So we're going there," before Sheeran confirmed: "So we're going to go and crash the wedding. See you in a bit."
The duo were seen in the back of a car heading to the venue. Upon arrival, the bride's brother introduced them to a cheering crowd holding glow sticks. Sheeran burst into song, and the crowd erupted. The bride was seen hugging and jumping with the singer.
Reaction from Guests and the Couple
Comments on the post were filled with disbelief and admiration. One user joked: "The only wedding surprise I'd ever accept." Another added: "15 mins out of your day. Lifetime of memories for a random person. Legends." The bride, Tessa, commented: "Thank you SO much for surprising us at our wedding! Best night ever. We are eternally grateful!! I don't think we will ever come down from this. The most epic wedding crash of all time and a night we will never forget!!! You two are absolute legends. We love you!! - Tessa & Brendan." She also gave a shoutout to her brother, calling him "the brother of the century."
Wedding Details and Previous Surprises
The couple tied the knot at Adler Planetarium in Chicago. Brother Mike had reached out to Garrix's team on social media, explaining that his sister was "bummed" about missing Garrix's concert because of her wedding date. Garrix surprisingly replied and arranged the surprise, which then included Sheeran as well.
This is not the first time Sheeran has surprised newlyweds. In 2015, he made a surprise appearance at Australian couple Matt and Kya's wedding during his national arena tour. He posted a picture of the newlyweds with the caption: "Just surprised this lovely couples first dance. Available for weddings, birthdays and bar mitzvah's, contact your local super market for details."
