Daniel Sloss apologises over rape 'joke' backlash

Scottish comedian Daniel Sloss has apologised to Rebecca Goodwin for failing to challenge fellow comic Vittorio Angelone over a rape 'joke' about her. Sloss, who grew up in Fife, issued a statement on social media after facing criticism for not speaking up when Angelone made the comment during a 2025 episode of the Have A Word podcast.

Apology issued after podcast backlash

The apology follows Angelone's own apology to Goodwin, an OnlyFans model and influencer who shared a video explaining how deeply the joke had affected her. Goodwin, who previously reported a rape to the police, said it would "forever live with me that it was allowed for my name to be used as the punchline of a malicious 'joke' about such a serious issue".

During the podcast's roast episode, Angelone asked fellow comedian Freddy Quinne: "if you're here, who's raping Rebecca Goodwin?"

Sloss acknowledges 'immense hypocrisy'

In his statement, Sloss said he had spoken to Goodwin privately to apologise but wanted to take responsibility for his actions publicly as well. He acknowledged that his failure to challenge the comment went against what he had previously said about calling out inappropriate behaviour.

Posting his statement on Instagram, Sloss said: "I've spoken to Rebecca privately and apologised, but I also want to acknowledge my part in this publicly."I've spent years talking about the importance of calling out this kind of behaviour, yet when it happened in front of me, I didn't. I recognise the immense hypocrisy in that, and I'm not going to make excuses for it. I failed."

He went on to address those who had criticised his response, saying they were entitled to feel disappointed in him. Sloss continued: "Anyone who is disappointed in my lack of action has every right to be, so please don't jump to my defence when that's exactly what I failed to do for someone who actually needed it."Rebecca deserved better, and I'm sorry I didn't do better."

Goodwin's response to the apologies

Following the public statements from Sloss and Angelone, Goodwin took to TikTok to address the situation, explaining that she did not feel well enough to continue discussing the matter publicly.

The influencer said she did not have a manager advising her on how to respond to the apologies or media coverage, adding that speaking directly to her followers was the way she felt most comfortable addressing the issue. Goodwin also revealed that she was dealing with hyperemesis gravidarum during her pregnancy and was trying to limit the amount of stress she was experiencing.

Speaking to the camera, she said: "I currently am not well enough to deal with taking it further into the media or going on podcasts or going on daytime TV to talk about this. I've got hyperemesis gravidarum, I'm pregnant and I'm trying to limit the amount of stress that I take on."

She explained that the reaction to the incident had brought wider discussion about sexual assault and the original rape case, which she did not feel able to deal with at this time. Goodwin said she had acknowledged both apologies and appreciated that the comedians had taken responsibility without making excuses.

She said: "So the apologies have been acknowledged but not quite accepted, due to the timeline of everything happening. Not only that, but it's not just up to me to accept an apology. It's the one in three woman that have a similar story to mine, that have also been affected by this."

She added: "So on this occasion because am so ill, i'm going to have to hand this one to the women and let them decide what happens next because I don't feel like there's anything else we can ask for."

The model ended her video by questioning whether the incident could be a pivotal moment. She said: "But should this be one of the time where males face the consequences for joking at women's expenses."
