Dani Dyer has described her week as 'emotional' after being forced to withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing due to a fractured ankle. The 29-year-old Love Island winner, who was partnered with professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin, suffered the injury during rehearsals before the first live show.
In a social media update on Sunday, Dyer shared a selfie and a photo of her foot in a sling, propped up on cushions. She wrote: 'It’s been a lazy.. emotional week I was so excited for this side of the year but it really hasn’t ended the way I wanted it too.. taking everyday as it comes whilst my annoying foot gets better!'
Dyer had earlier revealed the extent of her injury in an Instagram statement, explaining she had a fall in rehearsals and landed awkwardly. An MRI scan confirmed a fractured ankle, and doctors advised against dancing, forcing her to pull out of the show. She said: 'To say I’m heartbroken is the biggest understatement.'
Fans expressed their disappointment and hope for her return next year, with one commenting: 'Gutted for you but hope you will be back next year.' Another wrote: 'Still so gutted for you. Hopefully we'll get to see yours and Nikitas Quickstep next year!'
Sarah James, Executive Producer for BBC Studios, said: 'Dani has brought so much passion, joy and enthusiasm to Strictly... We send her all our love and best wishes for a swift recovery, and we very much hope to welcome her back to the ballroom in the future.'
