Catalina Mancera, the girlfriend of late Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, has shared a gallery of images from her baby shower as she prepares to welcome their child. The photos come six months after Kneeland tragically died by suicide following a police chase in suburban Dallas.
Heartfelt Gratitude
In an emotional Instagram post, Mancera expressed her thankfulness for the support she has received. 'Words can't explain how thankful I am for the people God has placed in my life. In such a hard season, the love and support surrounding me has made everything feel a little brighter,' she wrote. 'I'm so grateful for everyone who came out to celebrate me and baby, and even those who couldn't make it but still showed love from afar.'
She also thanked her family for throwing the shower in Michigan and acknowledged both families for their love and prayers that have carried her through this difficult time.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Mancera had been working with police to locate Kneeland in the minutes before his death. Bodycam footage shows her informing officers that Kneeland was armed, had a history of mental illness, and had mentioned he would 'end it all.' Despite initial confusion, authorities later confirmed she cooperated in the search.
The incident began around 10:35 p.m. when Texas State Troopers pursued Kneeland's vehicle, initially unaware of his identity. After losing sight of the vehicle, Kneeland crashed into a pickup and fled on foot, triggering a widespread search involving K-9 units, drones, and pepper balls fired into drainage tunnels. His body was eventually found in a port-a-potty at around 1:32 a.m.
Ongoing Mourning
Mancera continues to grieve, sharing a heartbreaking statement earlier this week: 'I still have a glimpse of hope Marshawn will walk through our front door singing and dancing to the music he was listening to in the car. This isn't my life anymore, I'm now living my worst nightmare. Marshawn was more than just my boyfriend; he was my best friend, my muse, and my reason.'
Kneeland's cousin, Nicole Kneeland-Woods, told the Daily Mail that Mancera and Kneeland began dating when he was at Western Michigan University in her native Kalamazoo. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer revealed Mancera's pregnancy after Kneeland's death, and the franchise has set up a memorial fund to support her and their unborn child.
