Coronation Street fans have pointed out a 'glaring error' in the soap's latest experimental storyline involving teenager Sam Blakeman. For weeks, Sam has been experiencing hallucinations of Roy Cropper, played by David Neilson, who appears on screen and then vanishes. The storyline follows Sam's descent into psychosis after being bullied by teacher Megan Walsh, who was having an illicit relationship with Will Driscoll. In the latest episode, Sam walks down the street talking to his vision of Roy, who urges him to take action against Will.
Fans Question Lack of Intervention
Viewers have taken to social media to question why no one on the busy street notices Sam talking to himself loudly. One fan wrote on X: 'How has not a single person on that permanently busy street noticed Sam talking to himself at full volume?' Another added: 'Someone please help Sam. How does nobody see he isn't himself? How does nobody see him talking to thin air?' A third commented: 'The biggest glaring error is that Sam seems to be talking to himself out loud constantly and not one person has noticed.'
Praise for David Neilson's Performance
Despite the controversial storytelling method, fans have praised David Neilson's portrayal of an evil version of Roy. One fan said: 'David Neilson must be relishing the opportunity to show his acting chops. He is bloody magnificent as evil Roy.' Another added: 'I know evil Roy is a hallucination but it's so creepy it's entertaining. Has David Neilson ever played a villain before? Because he does it well!' The actor has been a staple on the show since 1995.
The plot device is a first for the soap, which has undergone format changes in recent years. Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and streams from 7am on ITV X.
