The BBC has announced that Game Of Thrones star Conleth Hill will be joining the cast of the upcoming Peaky Blinders spin-off series. The show, set in Birmingham during the 1950s, follows the Shelby family as they navigate the aftermath of the Second World War in a city undergoing reconstruction.
New Cast Members Revealed
Conleth Hill, who played Varys in Game Of Thrones, will portray Clemmy Keeler, the fierce patriarch of the Keeler gangster family, who rival the Peaky Blinders in their ambitions to rebuild Birmingham. Additional castings include Cal O’Driscoll as Aidan Keeler, Clemmy’s son, and Daniel Monks as Detective Inspector Bell. Other new cast members are Samuel Bottomley as Eliot, Arturo Muselli as Angelo, Eugene Collins as Frank, and Lucie Shorthouse as Kezia Lee.
Returning Characters
Ned Dennehy and Packy Lee will reprise their roles from the original series and the film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, playing Charlie Strong and Johnny Dogs, respectively. The new cast joins previously announced stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski, whose roles remain undisclosed.
Production Details
The spin-off series is being directed by Mike Barker, known for The Testaments, and Anna Zackrisson, director of Detective Hole. Filming is taking place at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham. The story is set a decade after the events of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, a feature-length film released earlier this year starring Cillian Murphy and Barry Keoghan.
Series Commission and Release
The show has been commissioned for two series of six hour-long episodes. It will premiere in the UK on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, and on Netflix internationally. The original Peaky Blinders series, created by Steven Knight, first aired on the BBC in 2013.
