A Chance Encounter in a Car Park
In 2005, both Colman and Raul were out with friends when they crossed paths in a car park. Although they did not exchange words, they felt an immediate connection. Raul took a bold step and posted a message on Craigslist's Missed Connections section, hoping to find the man he had briefly seen. Colman, while searching for a used computer to aid his writing, stumbled upon the post. Recalling the moment on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2020, Colman said: "I literally jumped out of my chair. We passed each other. We never spoke... A few days later, I'm on Craigslist trying to buy a used computer to help with my writing. I went to the home screen and you know, they have Missed Connections, things like ads, so I would read them because I'm a romantic. I go to the second page of Missed Connections and it said, 'Saw you outside of Walgreens, Berkeley.'"
From First Date to Marriage
Their first date took place just two days after Colman discovered the post. The couple fell in love quickly, and their bond has remained strong ever since. Raul, a private individual who keeps his Instagram account under wraps, has been a steadfast supporter of Colman's career. When Colman accepted a filming role in Alaska, Raul accompanied him and worked as an assistant costume designer. After relocating to New York together, Colman proposed, and they married in 2014.
