Coco Gauff has revealed her unusual hobby ahead of Wimbledon, confessing her little-known obsession with the cartoon series Avatar the Last Airbender. The American tennis star, currently ranked world No. 7, was left red-faced when a journalist quizzed her about a fan-made edit she shared on Instagram.
Gauff's Confession About Avatar Fandom
During her pre-Wimbledon press conference, Gauff admitted to making fan edits of the show. She said: “Oh my gosh. I forgot I posted it on my TikTok story. I did it [making fan edits], like three years ago. And then I stopped for years. I am a Zutara fan [a phrase used by fans about two characters] I just wanted to make the edit because it didn’t exist yet. I’m not really that great, but I do it in my free time.”
This is not the first time Gauff has hinted at being an Avatar enthusiast. She has previously dressed up as one of the characters for Halloween and revealed that her favourite character from the show is Katara.
Grass Court Challenges at Wimbledon
Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam where Gauff has not reached at least the semi-finals, with her best run being the fourth round. She has played only one grass court match in the build-up to Wimbledon, which ended in defeat against Paula Badosa. Gauff acknowledged her patchy record on grass, saying: “Yeah, we don't have the best relationship I always have, like, fond memories on the grass. I obviously had a couple (of) fourth rounds here. I definitely think that I have the ability to play on it. I think it's more about the confidence.”
She added: “Also, I'm not going to lie, I haven't (had) about the best draws here at Wimbledon. I think that's also been tough. Yeah, something that I'm learning to play on. I don't think it's a natural surface for me but we're going to make it natural.”
Path to Glory in Wimbledon 2026
The 22-year-old begins her Wimbledon 2026 campaign against world No. 79 Tamara Korpatsch. Her route could see her meet fourth seed Jessica Pegula and top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in the later rounds. Despite her grass court struggles, Gauff appeared in high spirits as she aims to become the last player standing after two weeks of action.
