Clare Balding Knows What BBC Wimbledon Colleagues Think of Her
Clare Balding Knows BBC Wimbledon Colleagues' True Thoughts

Clare Balding has fronted the BBC's coverage from Wimbledon for three years, and she is well aware of the admiration her colleagues hold for her. The veteran broadcaster, who has over 30 years of television experience and has presented eight Summer and seven Winter Olympic Games, was appointed the BBC's lead presenter from SW19 in 2023. She continues in that role for the 2026 tournament.

Colleagues Praise Balding's Professionalism

Isa Guha, who works closely with Balding at the All England Club, has been among her most vocal supporters. When Balding took over the lead role three years ago, Guha told the Press Association: "Clare is the ultimate professional. She's got so much energy about her and that's what she brings to the screen. You very much feel you're in there with her when she's talking to you."

Guha added: "I think she wants to do it in a way that's true to her and that's bringing that energy. I think as people who haven't played tennis to a professional standard, it's asking those questions the general audience wants to hear. You get that different take."

Sue Barker Endorses Her Successor

Balding stepped into the role previously held by the much-loved, long-serving Wimbledon presenter Sue Barker in 2023. Barker was full of praise for her successor, saying: "I just want to say, leaving Wimbledon, it's incredibly... I've loved it all my life. I know I'm leaving it in the safest hands, it's absolutely wonderful to leave it with Clare."

Admiration Beyond Wimbledon

Balding's colleagues outside Wimbledon have also sung her praises. Former ski racer Chemmy Alcott collaborated with Balding on the BBC's coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics and admitted to feeling starstruck. Alcott told The Sun: "It's live. Anything can go wrong or you can have the ride of your life. These are all the same attributes I had to deal with as an athlete. Except now I'm doing it next to Clare Balding. She's an icon and, I'm proud to say, a good friend. So to be working with her on TV is always a 'pinch me' moment."

Balding's Broad Role at the BBC

Balding, 55, also fronts coverage of Crufts and the Boat Race. She will oversee proceedings at SW19 as both the men's and women's singles finals draw near, leading the BBC's coverage as the Championships build towards a thrilling conclusion in 2026.
