Cindy Crawford Opens Up About Ageing as She Celebrates 60th Birthday
As Cindy Crawford marks her 60th birthday, the iconic supermodel has shared candid insights into embracing this milestone with grace and positivity. In an exclusive interview, she discusses her journey from modelling heyday to a serene life in the Californian desert with husband Rande Gerber.
Embracing Age and Overcoming Insecurities
Crawford revealed that she learned to embrace ageing long ago, a theme she explored in a book at 50. "When I turned 50, I wrote a book about how aging can be scary and daunting for a woman, especially if you happen to be in the public eye," she said. "I learned to embrace it then and I embrace it now." She highlighted the challenges of living in an ageist world but emphasized the importance of pushing past self-criticism.
"We all need to be less critical," Crawford advised, noting that everyone feels insecure at times. Her approach involves accepting oneself and allowing others to do the same, fostering a more compassionate outlook on life and ageing.
From Supermodel Stardom to a Quiet Desert Life
Reflecting on her career, Crawford recalled her early days when models were often stereotyped as unintelligent. "Back in my day, there was this terrible assumption that if you were a model, you were dumb," she explained. Today, she appreciates how social media has given models a voice, enabling them to showcase their personalities beyond magazine covers.
Her life has transformed significantly since her peak modelling years. Now residing in the Coachella Valley, Crawford describes her days as "quiet" and "zen." "We live in the desert so it’s very different. It’s serene," she shared. Her routine includes morning walks, meditation, and occasional golf, with spontaneous trips to local spots like Bar Cecil in Palm Springs.
Beauty Icons and Personal Regimen
When asked about her beauty icons, Crawford named her mother for her natural beauty and Raquel Welch for her glamorous look. "As a brunette and because she had a body like I did, I could relate to her type of beauty," she said of Welch.
Crawford also detailed her daily beauty routine, which includes tongue scraping, dry brushing, lymphatic drainage with oil, and gua sha facial massage. She advocates for healthy eating and moderate exercise but stresses flexibility. For her famous hair, she recommends avoiding daily washing and using a loose bun at night to prevent frizz.
Looking Ahead to Her Sixties
As she enters her sixties, Crawford is focused on enjoying life with her husband and adult children, Kaia and Presley. "I love the fact I still get to be in front of a camera sometimes and get to travel," she said, but added that she now values more spontaneous time with loved ones.
Her journey from aspiring president or doctor to global supermodel has been unexpected, yet she remains authentic and relatable. Crawford's message is clear: celebrate uniqueness, embrace ageing, and live authentically in every decade of life.
