Cheryl Fergison, best known for playing Heather Trott on EastEnders, has opened up about discovering her first husband's affair in her new autobiography, Behind The Scenes. The actress, who suffered a stroke earlier this year, details how a suspicious scent in the car led her to uncover the betrayal.
Fergison recalled climbing into the car with husband Jay Saddiqi and detecting a floral, powdery perfume on the seatbelt. When she questioned him, he dismissed her concerns, claiming it was aftershave from a colleague. However, a phone bill listing unfamiliar numbers prompted her to investigate further.
After calling the number and reaching a woman, then hearing Jay's voice on a callback, Fergison tracked down the location of the affair. She described the scene as a 'dingy, makeshift love nest' where she found her husband with a blonde woman drinking a blue WKD. Saddiqi offered no apology or explanation.
Fergison left the marriage that night, packing up her car with her son Alex and driving to London. The couple divorced in 2008 after eight years of marriage. The actress hopes her story will resonate with readers, stating she has always worn her heart on her sleeve.
