Cheryl has bravely opened up about the "terrifying" experience of being stalked by a man who bombarded her with hundreds of disturbing messages, after he was finally brought to justice at Westminster Magistrates' Court this week.
The beloved singer and TV personality, who rose to fame with Girls Aloud, described how the persistent harassment from 35-year-old Liam Llewellyn left her "living in constant fear" for both her own safety and that of her young son.
A Chilling Campaign of Harassment
Llewellyn's obsessive behaviour began in August 2023 when he started sending the star a flood of unwanted communications through social media platforms. The court heard how the messages quickly escalated in their disturbing nature, prompting Cheryl to contact authorities.
"The content of these messages became increasingly alarming," a source close to the singer revealed. "It reached a point where Cheryl felt genuinely threatened and feared for her family's wellbeing."
Legal Action and Sentencing
After a thorough investigation, Llewellyn was charged with stalking involving serious alarm or distress. He pleaded guilty to the offence at Westminster Magistrates' Court, where District Judge Michael Hamilton handed down an 18-month community order.
The sentence includes:
- 200 hours of unpaid work
- 25 days of rehabilitation activity
- A five-year restraining order prohibiting any contact with Cheryl
- Payment of £614 in costs and surcharges
The Emotional Toll on the Star
In a powerful victim impact statement read to the court, Cheryl described the profound psychological impact of the stalking campaign. "This experience has left me feeling vulnerable and anxious in ways I never imagined possible," she shared.
The mother-of-one emphasised how the situation affected her ability to live a normal life, stating that the constant worry about her family's safety became all-consuming.
This case highlights the serious consequences of stalking and the importance of taking such threats seriously, regardless of the victim's public profile.
