Carragher targets £250,000 for Football for Change charity gala
Carragher targets £250,000 for charity gala

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is leading a charity drive to raise £250,000, saying: “I want to give something back.” As chairman of Football for Change, which he launched in 2021 with fellow footballers Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Coady, Carragher is hosting a star-studded gala next weekend with the aim of hitting the ambitious target.

Charity's impact so far

Football for Change has raised more than £1.5 million and supported over 400 young people. Carragher said the numbers are "brilliant," but emphasised that the impact on individual lives matters most. The charity has helped young people living in poverty access education and training courses, and in some cases housing. It has also funded sporting retreats abroad for children who have often never left their own postcodes and provided laptops and other essential equipment.

Carragher said the charity is about tackling youth poverty and giving young people skills to build better futures, adding: "We've done quite a bit but there is so much more to do."

Gala night details

The annual gala will feature performances by Gabrielle and Tom Grennan, with Mark Wright on DJ duties and Paddy McGuinness hosting. Guests expected include Micah Richards, Steven Gerrard, and many other celebrity attendees. Auction prizes include a holiday donated by Destination2. Carragher set the target of £250,000 on the night, saying: "that's what I want us all to get behind."

Carragher highlighted the importance of corporate support, calling it "absolutely vital." He said the more businesses get involved, the more young people the charity can reach. This year, he is working with DSV to deliver the gala.
