Carol Vorderman has revealed she feared a future health scare 'could be my heart' after being hospitalised with chest pains in September 2024. The former Countdown presenter, 65, said doctors told her she had 'nothing left in the tank' after she hit burnout, forcing her to give up her LBC show.
Hospitalisation and Burnout
Speaking to womanandhome, Vorderman said: "I hit burnout and ended up in hospital in September 2024. I had chest pains and thankfully my heart was fine, but doctors said I had nothing left in the tank, so I had to give up my LBC show. I was sad but thought, 'Next time it could be my heart'."
The television personality, recently seen at the Pride of Britain Awards, described becoming ill as "a blessing because it reset things in my life".
Lifestyle Changes
Vorderman had previously discussed with Good Housekeeping the changes she made following the health scare, which included reducing her workload and overhauling her eating habits.
She said: "It was a real shock. I changed everything after that. I gave up LBC; I really quietened down my work. It was like an intervention, and I'm so grateful for it. I'm one of those people who needs a shock in order to change something."
On her diet, she added: "I have a bag of sprouts a day when I'm at home! I'm addicted to sprouts. I also make sure half of my plate is vegetables. And I never buy bread, because I could eat bread all day."
Health Maintenance
Alongside overhauling her diet and work schedule, Vorderman undergoes regular scans to ensure everything remains in good health. She stated her goal was to avoid becoming one of those people who deteriorates in their mid-70s.
Part of that involves maintaining sufficient strength and the right muscles to keep her body stable. In recent months, she has posted photographs of herself on social media hitting the gym.
