Brundle red-faced after quizzing Grant on wrong series

Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle was left red-faced after an awkward encounter with actor Hugh Grant at the 2026 British Grand Prix. The 67-year-old former racing driver was reporting from the Silverstone grid when he spotted Grant in the VIP section, standing next to Queen guitarist Brian May.

Brundle’s mistaken question about The Gentlemen

Brundle beckoned Grant over for what he called a 'quick word'. He first asked if Grant was with Ferrari that day, to which Grant replied he was a 'big fan' and had been invited with two of his sons. Brundle then referenced Grant’s career, asking: 'Are you doing another round of The Gentlemen soon? Because I really loved that.'

Grant initially did not hear the question, leaning in for Brundle to repeat it. Brundle asked again: 'Are you doing another series of The Gentlemen?' Grant clarified: 'Well I did the film of The Gentlemen, I haven’t seen the TV series.' Surprised, Brundle responded: 'Oh right, it’s really good – you really must.'

Quick wrap-up and national anthem

Brundle quickly ended the conversation, saying: 'I’ve got 10 seconds left for the national anthem. Good to see you on the grid.' Grant returned to his spot behind the red rope as Brundle continued broadcasting.

Grant starred in the 2020 film The Gentlemen, directed by Guy Ritchie, playing Fletcher, a cockney private investigator. The film scores 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the Netflix TV series The Gentlemen, released in 2024, stars Theo James and is a separate project, though both are created by Guy Ritchie. The series won an Emmy for outstanding stunt coordination and was nominated for three Emmys.

Viewers react to the blunder

The awkward exchange drew attention online, with some viewers calling it a classic Brundle grid-walk moment. The incident occurred ahead of the British Grand Prix, a major event on the Formula 1 calendar.
