Britney Spears Finalises Major Music Catalog Sale to Primary Wave
Pop superstar Britney Spears has reportedly completed the sale of her entire music catalog to the music company Primary Wave for an undisclosed sum. This significant business transaction was confirmed by two separate sources to The Hollywood Reporter, although representatives for Spears have not yet provided official comment to The Independent.
Details of the Landmark Music Rights Agreement
The deal encompasses the rights to some of the most iconic pop songs in recent history, including global smashes such as "Oops!… I Did It Again," "…Baby One More Time," and "Gimme More." According to additional reports from TMZ, which cited a source familiar with the negotiations, the agreement is described as a "landmark deal" potentially valued in a similar range to Justin Bieber's $200 million catalog sale to Hipgnosis Songs Capital.
Documents obtained by TMZ indicate the sale was formalised on 30 December 2025. This move arrives precisely one month after Spears made a public declaration on Instagram that she would "never perform in the U.S. again" due to what she termed "extremely sensitive reasons."
Spears' Personal Reflections and Future Performance Plans
In her January social media post, which accompanied an old tour photograph of herself seated at a white piano, Spears elaborated on her personal journey. "I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about," she wrote. "I walked through the fire to save my life."
Despite her decision regarding US performances, the singer expressed hope for future musical collaborations, specifically with her son. "I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son… in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon," she stated, describing her son as a "huge star" and noting her humility in his presence.
Spears shares two sons with her former husband, Kevin Federline: Sean Preston Federline, aged 20, and Jayden James Federline, aged 19. After a period of estrangement, she reunited with her younger son, Jayden, around Christmas 2024. Last March, she praised his musical talents in social media videos, calling him a "genius" for his rapping and piano skills.
A Career Defined by Pop Stardom and Public Scrutiny
Widely celebrated as the Princess of Pop, Britney Spears first catapulted to international fame in 1998 with the release of her debut single, "…Baby One More Time." The song became the title track for her multi-platinum 1999 debut album, which also featured other major hits like "You Drive Me (Crazy)" and "Sometimes."
In recent years, the Grammy-winning artist has frequently been at the centre of public controversy, often related to her social media activity. She addressed this directly in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, a best-selling autobiography. Spears explained that after years of being "photographed by other people thousands of times, prodded and posed for other people’s approval," she now derives "a lot of joy from posing the way I feel sexy and taking my own picture."
This catalog sale represents a pivotal moment in the career of one of pop music's most enduring and discussed figures, marking a significant shift in the ownership of her legendary musical legacy.
