Medical Struggles Before Death
Bonnie Tyler had been hospitalised over a month before her death, undergoing emergency surgery for a perforated intestine on May 6. She was placed in a medically induced coma but later suffered a cardiac arrest and needed resuscitation. She woke from the coma on May 15 but died on July 8 due to complications.
The singer is survived by her husband, Robert Sullivan, whom she married in 1973. Robert is a cousin of actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Charity Donations in Lieu of Flowers
The family has asked fans to donate to two charities Bonnie was a patron of instead of sending flowers: Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales and Cerebral Palsy Cymru. The funeral home added: "Her legacy lives on in the timeless songs that made her a legend."
Tributes from Catherine Zeta-Jones and Prince of Wales
Catherine Zeta-Jones paid tribute on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself with Tyler. She wrote: "My heart is broken with the news that our dearest Bonnie Tyler has passed away. Bonnie was married to my cousin and has been such a part of my life." She described Tyler as "an extraordinary woman with vocals to match" and "one of the funniest people I ever met."
The Prince of Wales called Tyler a "proud Welsh icon," stating: "Her extraordinary voice and unforgettable music touched millions around the world and will continue to inspire generations to come."
