Britain's Got Talent finalist Vinnie McKee was jokingly 'sacked' from a Glasgow cafe after he burst into song while helping out in the kitchen. The 29-year-old singer was visiting Cranberry's Cafe in the city's Wilson Street for breakfast when he decided to lend a hand to staff.
Vinnie donned an apron and began buttering rolls for square sausage when his Golden Buzzer song, The Proclaimers' '500 Miles', started playing on the cafe's speaker system. Unable to resist, he launched into a rendition of the tune, much to the amusement of diners and kitchen staff.
However, things took a turn when he wandered into the kitchen still singing. Chef Graeme Stirling told him: 'That's enough. That's enough. Too much singing in the kitchen. I've had enough now.' A bemused Vinnie asked if he was being sacked, to which the chef replied: 'I'm sacking you. Get out.'
As Vinnie retreated, untying his apron, he asked: 'Are you sure?' Chef Graeme relented: 'I've had enough… well, ok, just one more verse.' Vinnie then walked through the cafe belting out the rest of the tune, threw his apron on the ground, and headed out the door, telling fans: 'Bye guys. Cannae believe I've been sacked.'
Cranberry's owner Steven Jacobs later said: 'We loved having Vinnie into Cranberry's for breakfast after watching him on the telly. He tried out a few of our dishes and he's welcome back anytime. He was a total star.' Vinnie, who sold out his debut gig at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall, is due to perform there again next year.
