BBC Wimbledon coverage saw a change in presenters on Friday, July 10, as Isa Guha was absent from the men's semi-final broadcast. The former cricketer was replaced by Andy Stevenson, who ordinarily presents the wheelchair finals, as Guha was at Lord's to present coverage of a Women's Test match between England and India.
Isa Guha's Absence and Replacement
Guha, who typically fronts the morning Wimbledon coverage for the BBC, was not on screen for Friday's semi-finals. This marks the second time she has been substituted during the tournament; last week, she was replaced by former British tennis player Laura Robson. Additionally, Guha was notably absent from Thursday morning's coverage as well.
Andy Stevenson stepped in to host the broadcast from the Rose Arbour, situated across from Centre Court. He was joined by Louise Hunt Skelley and Leon Smith to preview the day's action.
Men's Semi-Finals Preview
The men's semi-finals on Friday feature British wildcard Arthur Fery facing Alexander Zverev in the opening match on Centre Court, followed by a highly anticipated encounter between top seed Jannik Sinner and 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic. Stevenson highlighted Fery's local roots, noting that he first stepped onto a tennis court at Westside Tennis Club, opposite Christ Church Wimbledon, at age four and attended school nearby.
Reflecting on Fery's achievement, Leon Smith said: "I'm absolutely thrilled for him. He's a wonderful person. He's shown a huge amount of determination, quality. No chance anyone [would have] dreamed this [would happen] in the last fortnight, but it has and he's earned it. He's played some amazing tennis."
Louise Hunt Skelley added: "The energy and excitement is just taking over, isn't it? It's truly infectious. But I'm so excited to see how today is going to unfold. It's a really magical journey and I just believe that why can't this be his opportunity? I've got every faith, I've got everything behind him."
Women's Finalists Confirmed
On Thursday, July 9, Czech players Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková progressed to their maiden Wimbledon final after defeating American star Coco Gauff and Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk on Centre Court. The women's final is scheduled for Saturday.
Wimbledon coverage is broadcast on BBC One and BBC Two, and can be watched via BBC iPlayer.
