Lisa Shaw, a well-known presenter on BBC Radio Newcastle, has died at the age of 44 after a short illness. Her death was announced on Sunday, prompting an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, listeners, and her family.

Shaw joined the BBC station's daytime team in 2016, having previously enjoyed success on commercial radio in the North East, including Metro Radio, Heart, Century Radio, and Real Radio. She won a Sony Gold Award for breakfast show of the year during her time at Real Radio.

Rik Martin, acting executive editor of BBC Radio Newcastle, described the team as "devastated." He said: "She was a trusted colleague, a brilliant presenter, a wonderful friend, and a loving wife and mum. She loved being on the radio and was loved by our audiences."

Tributes on social media described Shaw as a "broadcasting legend" with an "infectious laugh." Colleague Stephanie Finnon called her an "incredible presenter," while Martin Lindsay said he would remember "the countless laughs and general silliness."

Chris Burns, head of BBC Local Radio, said: "Lisa was a talented presenter who had already achieved a lot and would have achieved much more." Shaw, originally from County Durham and a graduate of Bournemouth University, leaves behind a husband and a young child.
