Baldwins roasted for 'midlife crisis' date night looks

Alec and Hilaria Baldwin faced a social media roasting after sharing snaps from a recent date night, with fans claiming their outfits screamed 'midlife crisis.'

The 68-year-old Oscar-nominated actor and his 42-year-old yoga-loving wife looked like they had stepped straight out of a 1990s time machine in the Instagram post on Wednesday. Alec sported an all-black ensemble complete with sneakers and dark sunglasses, while Hilaria went full throwback in baggy acid-wash jeans and a varsity jacket, her hair perfectly channeling the era.

Posing in a mirror, Hilaria gave a shout-out to their upcoming projects, including her new reality show, Reality Retreat. 'Went out to celebrate together our fun projects just announced. We want to thank all of you for cheering us on through our lows, our highs and our zigzags. We always say that we have been through so much together…and that includes all of you,' she captioned the post.

But instead of applause, fans were quick to fire off savage comments. One critic posted, 'If late late late midlife crisis could be summed up in 2 photos,' while another simply said, 'Definitely a midlife crisis.' Others piled on, with one remarking, 'She seems to think she's like 20 years old. She's way too old for those jeans, and they're not flattering at all.' Another fan went further: 'She has the worst taste in clothes! Jeans atrocious in that wash and paired with pageant pumps – gross.' Another commented, 'I guess these hideous acid wash jeans are replacing the leggings now? Fitting, since both they and Alec peaked around 1987.'

Family and Relationship Background

The 30 Rock star and his Dancing With The Stars alum wife have been married for 13 years. The couple first met at a Manhattan restaurant in 2011, tied the knot the following year, and went on to welcome seven children together: Carmen, 12; Rafael, ten; Leonardo, nine; Romeo, seven; Eduardo, five; María Lucía, four; and Ilaria, three. Alec also shares daughter Ireland, 30, with his first wife, actress Kim Basinger, 71.

The 'midlife crisis' backlash comes just months after Hilaria faced similar scrutiny for dishing out relationship advice online. In December, she raised eyebrows after resharing a video by content creator Maureen Evelyn, which read: 'Him not treating you like a princess isn't a problem. It's information. Use it. Leave it.' Under the clip, Hilaria wrote: 'I get relationship advice questions a lot... this is such a good answer,' adding three red heart emojis.

The screenshot quickly made its way to Reddit, captioned: 'Hilaria gets a Cameo request for advice and is now a relationship guru.' Users didn't hold back. 'Who on earth is asking Hilaria Baldwin for RELATIONSHIP advice!?' one exclaimed. 'Bahahaha. Who on earth would ask her for relationship advice? I would take my dog's advice before Hilaria,' wrote another. 'Her situation is very [unrelatable] to the majority of people,' one person pointed out. 'She married a famous person; she never has to work again in her life; finances, housing, child rearing, domestic chores, etc. are all handled for her. She lives in a bubble. And now she thinks she's able to give advice to people?'

Age-Gap Marriage and Family Plans

In November, Hilaria spoke on Caroline Stanbury's Uncut and Uncensored podcast about the challenges of their age-gap marriage. 'I don't believe that age is just a number, at least in our situation,' she said. 'There are certain things where I have to look at him and say, he has 26 more years of experience. And sometimes that's a flex, and sometimes that means that we need to do a little therapy.' She was also candid about the ups and downs in their relationship. 'Do we have our hard moments? Do we have our normal marital arguments? One hundred percent,' she shared. 'But it's the desire to both want to be there and to both want to make it work. When you have that, I think you can go through anything together.'

Hilaria also clarified that while some thought she pushed for a large family, it was actually Alec who wanted to grow their brood. 'Can I tell you, he'd have more,' she said. 'I'm the one who's like, no more, thank you very much. He would have more. He's the second oldest of six. And he had the very notorious, complicated situation with his previous wife and with Ireland. I think he wanted a chance to do it in a different way and make different choices.'

Even on TV, Hilaria has shared the couple's approach to keeping their marriage fun. In 2020, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she explained how they make time for romance despite a house full of kids. 'This is an Alec genius moment,' she said, recalling his advice. 'He said to me when we had our first, he said, not only are you going to be my wife and the mother of our child, but you're my girlfriend. You're always going to be my girlfriend.' 'And so we relate to each other like that. Our banter. We're always flirting,' she added. 'Now in terms of timing, you just got to find time, and you have to make it a priority, because people have needs.'
