Bake Off's Briony May Williams Reveals Baking Helped Her Through PCOS Diagnosis

Briony May Williams, a former contestant on The Great British Bake Off, has opened up about how baking helped her cope with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). In an interview with Express.co.uk, she revealed that she started baking in 2013 after being diagnosed with the condition, which forced her to take time off work.

Williams explained that a colleague suggested baking to keep her mind occupied. She found it therapeutic, describing it as methodical and calming. She began by making birthday cakes and novelty cakes, eventually improving her skills enough to reach the semi-final of Bake Off in 2018.

Reflecting on her early attempts, Williams humorously admitted that her first baked goods were “terrible,” including “really bad biscuits.” However, she persevered and eventually got better. She also noted that the show’s producers were supportive, saying they “really do look after you and your wellbeing.”

Williams expressed no major regrets about her time on the show, except that she wished she had practised more for the semi-final. She added that she still feels comfortable contacting the show for help if needed, calling the cast a “happy family.”
