Aubrey Plaza Shows Baby Bump at Premiere, Jokes About Home Birth
Aubrey Plaza Cradles Baby Bump at Film Premiere

Aubrey Plaza cradled her blossoming baby bump as she walked the red carpet Wednesday for the premiere of her film The Accompanist at the SVA Theater in New York, part of the Tribeca Film Festival. The 41-year-old actress, expecting her first child with Girls actor Christopher Abbott, 40, cut an elegant figure in a flowing off-white sleeveless blouse, matching loose trousers, and pale yellow open-toed heels.

Onstage with Susan Sarandon

During the event, Plaza spoke onstage with her co-star Susan Sarandon, 79, who wore a cream trouser suit with a floral brooch. Plaza quipped to a red carpet interviewer that Sarandon would be her pick to assist with a 'home birth,' according to Entertainment Tonight. The joke stemmed from Plaza's earlier comments about wanting Seth Meyers or Henry Winkler to deliver her baby, referencing a Parks and Recreation scene where Winkler's character helped hers give birth. 'Maybe Susan? I feel like Susan would do a really good home birth. She already asked me on the red carpet if I have a doula,' Plaza said. She added, 'I've got 'em all lined up. I've got Patti LuPone, I've got Sandra Bernhard, I've got all the New York ladies just ready to catch the baby.'

Reflecting on Recent Years

Plaza addressed the challenging two years leading to her pregnancy announcement in April, which came 15 months after the suicide of her estranged husband Jeff Baena. Baena, a filmmaker, died by hanging in January 2024 at age 47 after the couple separated in September 2024. 'It's been a journey, the last couple years,' Plaza said Wednesday, calling impending motherhood 'such a blessing.' In a previous podcast interview with Amy Poehler, she described her grief as a 'giant ocean of awfulness' and a 'daily struggle,' but noted she feels 'grateful to be moving through the world.'

Relationship with Christopher Abbott

Plaza and Abbott, who have been dating since last year, kept their romance largely private. They appeared together in public shortly after her pregnancy announcement in April at an opening night afterparty for his Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman. The pair have a professional history, co-starring in the 2020 film Black Bear and in an off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea from October 2023 to January 2024.
