Antiques Roadshow star Theo Burrell marks 4 years since cancer diagnosis

Theo Burrell, the antiques expert known for her appearances on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow, has shared a candid update on her health as she marks four years since her glioblastoma diagnosis. Initially given a life expectancy of just 12 to 18 months, the 38-year-old from East Lothian has defied the odds and continues to fight the aggressive brain tumour.

Diagnosis and Initial Prognosis

Burrell was diagnosed with glioblastoma in June 2022, a type of cancerous tumour that starts in the brain and can spread to other parts of the body. According to the NHS, gliomas are likely to grow back after treatment. She was told she had only 12 to 18 months to live, a prognosis that led to dark thoughts about missing her son's milestones.

Celebrating Milestones

In an Instagram post, Burrell wrote: "On June 7 this year I marked four years since my glioblastoma diagnosis. Like other GBM patients I was expected to live for 12-18 months. In the wake of that news I had many dark thoughts including that I wouldn't see my son's second birthday let alone him starting school, but I'm lucky enough to say I did! And no one can take that away from me."

Current Health Challenges

Despite her resilience, Burrell faces ongoing challenges. She revealed that her peripheral vision on the left side has deteriorated and her coordination is not what it was. She had a second surgery in January 2026, and life since then has been "a bit up and down." However, she recently enjoyed a four-night break in the Lake District with her husband Alex and her parents, describing the warm weather as "a bit of an extra bonus."

Determination and Advocacy

Looking ahead, Burrell acknowledged the looming scan but expressed renewed determination: "I've dug deep and found a new bit of determination to say to the GBM 'I will not give up. Whatever the results, I'll take stock, trust my oncologist and go from there.'" She added, "Every day we make is a bit of a win for us and a 'GET LOST!' to the illness!"

Burrell became a patron of Brain Tumour Research in 2023, just 12 months after her diagnosis, and continues to raise awareness and advocate for research.

Public Support

Her Instagram post was met with an outpouring of support. One follower commented: "Have a fabulous break away. My husband continues to defy the odds and his diagnosis for GBM was in 2020 - positive thoughts only are allowed around here!" Another wrote: "I don't think you will ever realise what an inspiration you are to people." A third added: "Thinking of you Theo and sending love and encouragement to you and your family. You're an inspiration to us all."
