Former England international footballer Andy Carroll has formally entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of breaching a non-molestation order against his ex-wife, reality television star Billi Mucklow. The case is now scheduled to proceed to trial next year, following a series of court hearings this week.
Court Proceedings and Trial Date Set
At a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday, a trial date of January 18, 2027, was established. Carroll, who did not attend Tuesday's session due to a reported misunderstanding over dates, appeared via video-link on Wednesday to enter his plea. The 37-year-old striker, wearing a checked shirt, confirmed his name and stated "not guilty" when asked for his plea regarding the alleged breach.
Allegations and Legal Details
Carroll is accused of repeatedly calling Ms. Mucklow in March of last year without reasonable excuse, thereby violating an order issued by the family court at Chelmsford Justice Centre. Prosecutor Philippa Page acknowledged there had been "some mix-up regarding the dates for the plea and trial preparation hearing," which led to Carroll and his legal team's absence on Tuesday. As a result, Judge Mary Loram KC adjourned the arraignment by one day until Wednesday.
Following Carroll's not guilty plea, Judge Loram informed him, "I'm adjourning your case for trial on January 18 next year." Carroll was granted bail and expressed gratitude at the hearing's conclusion, saying, "thank you, thanks."
Background on Andy Carroll
Andy Carroll, who currently plays for National League South club Dagenham & Redbridge, enjoyed a prominent professional career that included stints with Newcastle United, Liverpool, West Ham, Reading, and West Brom. He transferred to Liverpool for £35 million in 2011 and earned nine caps for the England national team between 2010 and 2012, scoring two goals, including one at Euro 2012.
Ex-Wife Billi Mucklow
Billi Mucklow is known for her appearances on the reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex. The non-molestation order at the centre of this case was designed to protect her from alleged harassment, with the breach charge stemming from the reported phone calls last year.
This legal development marks a significant chapter in Carroll's post-football life, as he faces serious allegations that could impact his personal and professional reputation. The trial next year will determine the outcome of these charges, with both sides preparing for the court proceedings ahead.
